    Aliyah at Goldenrod Parlor did an amazing job bringing my natural gray curls back to life and explaining to me how to get the same results at home! The products she used made my hair feel soft again vs. the dry texture that comes with natural gray hair. I highly recommend her, she is a true curly haircut artist! Pictures show the before without products and after a curly cut and with proper products.

    This was the first time iā€™ve ever had a professional haircut and there was genuinely such a huge difference in quality. I had bleached my hair for this event i went to but then wanted to dye my hair back darker so I just dyed my hair black with arctic fox but my hair inevitably faded to a green šŸ«£. So i came here and said how i wanted my hair to be back to itā€™s original brown and get a layered haircut. Avin was the person to do my hair and I absolutely LOVE my haircut AND Avin color corrected my hair PERFECTLY back to my original hair color. Highly recommend.     I got my haircut by Adriana and I am in love with it!! First of all, I have bad haircut trauma, so Iā€™ve been on a hunt to find a good hair salon in Gainesville where I feel comfortable, especially with the chop I did. It is 1000% worth it to go to Goldenrod. Adriana was so silly and cool and so knowledgeable with what she was doing! I highly recommend her if youā€™re doing any sort of cut since she has over 10 years of experience. Also I recommend her if you just want a good laugh while youā€™re getting your haircut/done. Sheā€™s amazing, and I felt so beautiful walking out of my appointment!

    Avin is the best hairstylist Ive ever had! Ive been going to him for 7+ years because hes consistently given me amazing haircuts. Hes great at creating short haircuts that enhance my natural somewhat wavy texture and that dont require fussy styling to look good. I really appreciate how he listens and the questions he asks about what I want out of the cut.I also love the environment of Goldenrod and appreciate how they create a safe space for both their staff and customers. Wish more businesses took care of their staff like this!

    Sarah knows how to cute hair! I desperately needed a correction haircut. She took time to listen and went to work meticulously to reshape my hair into a fabulous cut! Everyone in the salon is so kind and friendly. Kamie the receptionist worked hard to get me in on short notice. I loved the whole experience.     Getting my hair cut by Avin is always a wonderful experience! Ive been a client of theirs for several years and I always leave my appointment feeling so much better about my hair (and myself)! Its so special to have a judgement-free stylist who is passionate about gender affirming haircuts. Goldenrod has a very comfortable and inviting vibe that I appreciate so much. Ive never been this comfortable getting my hair done anywhere else.

    Had a great experience here with Koral cutting my hair. She specializes in alternative styles (like shag cuts). She intuitively understood that I didnā€™t want an over the top shag cut and it turned out perfectly. I also really appreciate that you can get a silent cut here since I prefer that as a relaxation experience (I almost fell asleep lol).It is pricey but you will get the exact cut you want!

    I went here and saw Koral for my haircut. I must says, as a former hairdresser turned SAHM, I am often nervous going to salons after working in the industry and dealing with bad vibes and people who dont listen to clients, especially alternative clients. When I went here I can say this was one of the BEST experiences Ive ever had at a salon. The vibes are immaculate and Koral was an absolute boss at doing my hair. I loved the way she styled and cut it and will be seeing her for color soon. 1000000% recommend this place and Koral if youre any kind of alternative looking for a killer style.

    I am SO grateful I took the leap and made an appointment. I highly recommend Fareeza- she made me feel comfortable and at ease. I have scalp psoriasis and I never once felt uncomfortable. This was my first time dyeing my hair ever. My hair was basically all silver/gray and it is now my natural dark brown once again. Truly so special to see myself again. Fareeza is truly amazing and magical!!!! She is now forever my girlšŸ’—

    Iā€™m not going to lie I was a bit worried coming in due to a poor experience at a different salonā€¦ but Fareeza did an AMAZING JOB!! I showed her an inspo photo and she NAILED IT. She is super friendly, positive, and always smiling. She made a four hour appointment feel like 45 minutes. She also cut my hair and itā€™s now looking super healthy! I 100% recommend her to anyone! Yes, itā€™s a bit expensive, but I would rather spend more money getting exactly what I want rather than spending less and not getting what I hoped for. Wonderful experience and worth every penny!

Their range is incredible -- not only are they awesome at my brightly colored hair, theyre one of the only people in the world that my mom trusts for her blonde, lol.     Adriana is FANTASTIC! Iā€™m a previous client of hers from when she worked at her former salon and I followed her to Goldenrod Parlor. She did a wonderful job as always and created exactly the masterpiece I was imagining šŸ’œ. Sheā€™s really great at listening to what Iā€™m asking for and gives honest inputs as well. She always explains exactly what sheā€™s going to do before she cuts and I find this to be really helpful and reassuring. This was my first bleach and tone by her (Iā€™m not the type of person who regularly spends big $$$ getting her hair dyed) and I am THRILLED with the results. I had her create a beautiful silvery lavender color with toner, so it will last me a good while longer than with traditional ā€œunconventionalā€ colors.Goldenrod Parlor itself is a clean and welcoming environment. It was a bit hard to find, located tucked away in a section of a strip mall, but thatā€™s the only thing I could possibly complain about and once you know where it is the salon is easy to find. Each stylist charges by the hour for their services, with different stylists charging different rates based on a number of factors. I like this better than ā€œa la carteā€ because the fee is a direct reflection of time and effort rather than a quick, easy haircut bringing in the same amount of money as a long and extensively complicated one. I can also appreciate that the salon is gratuity-free. This makes the prices for the services very transparent and also ensures that the stylists get paid predictably and arenā€™t at the whim of whoā€™s feeling ā€œtips-yā€ that day or not. Originally I found this concept odd but I think it keeps things was more fair.All in all my experience here was excellent and I would HIGHLY recommend Goldenrod Parlor and Adriana for your next hair appointment šŸ˜Š

    I just need everyone to know that Rachael gave me the curtain bangs of my dreamsā€¦ she is a face framing queen! It was very much worth the extra money for anyone that is hesitant. As someone who had botched bangs in the past and haircuts that never fully hit the mark, I finally found someone I can trust with my hair! Iā€™m so glad I got in with Rachael at Goldenrod.

    I got my hair done here at the end of April (first photo), and it is now November (second photo). I went in for an entire color correction, I was going from having hot pink hair for two years to a bright blonde. I spoke with a few stylist and ultimately ended up with Rachael (_rach_ellen_ on IG). I waited this long to review for a few reason: the biggest being that my number one concern was not wanting to have to go back every couple weeks to be retoned or to have my roots touched up. I asked for a bit of a lived in blonde, something I could grow out and return to the salon when I wanted to, not because I had to go to look good. Like I said, I had my hair done 7 months ago and it still looks as good as the day I got it done with absolutely no touch ups. Rachael was able to blend my roots with the blonde so seamlessly that I often get told it looks natural, and I canā€™t even tell where the blonde begins and my roots end. She gave me the most beautiful golden shade, didnā€™t compromise my already lightened hair, and never made me feel like a burden, despite having to stay an extra ~2h to complete my hair beyond what we originally thought. She was thoughtful during our appointment, but didnā€™t pry conversation out of me, respecting that sometimes I just wanted to be quiet. I cannot say enough good things about this salon and Rachael. I would recommend them to anyone, and especially for someone who has a crazy situation like me (hot pink to blonde). If you are looking to change your hair, this is absolutely the place.

    Alexis did my hair for my wedding - she did a wonderful job! She took care at my consultation to make sure she understood what I was looking for (I wanted a rather specific vintage hairstyle), and was very communicative throughout the planning process. My hair on the wedding day looked beautiful and held all evening. I would definitely recommend her for event styling!

    This review is long overdue (and long ā€”sorry!) but Iā€™ve got to give a big shoutout to both Sarah and Sarah V. at Goldenrod Parlor. I had a hair emergency and needed hair experts, and thankfully they were able to squeeze me in quickly after I submitted a request form on their website. I came in with a bad haircut and highlights that were harsh and chunky. My confidence was so low and I was scared Iā€™d have to have a lot of my hair cut off to fix the cut. Sarah did an excellent job softening up my haircut and blending the overly razored layers into the rest of my hair. She didnā€™t even have to cut much of my hair but the scissor work she did made such a huge difference. I really appreciated her expertise with my cut - - I really needed it! I was also highly impressed by Sarah V.ā€™s talent and knowledge of color correction/coloring. The highlights I came in with were washing me out, but Sarah V. was able to correct my color to a beautiful cool toned brown that complemented my skin tone and eyes perfectly. I canā€™t thank either of them enough for helping me to feel gorgeous. I highly recommend both Sarah and Sarah V. at Goldenrod Parlor!

    Hands down the best experience Ive had with getting my hair cut. Avin turns what is usually a very uncomfortable experience for me into one that is pleasant and informative. They are super neurodivergent affirming and acknowledge my sensory sensitivities without any negativity or judgement. They also provide knowledgeable answers to my (many) questions during the haircuts Ive had with them and have even followed up after our appointment about ones that they didnt have a response to in the moment.     I cannot express enough how incredible Sarah is (not the owner but the other Sarah)!!! She is seriously the person I strive to be. Not only is she extremely talented, confident, creative, and so good at what she does she is also a very positive and uplifting person. I usually get so nervous going to hair appointments and put if off for months due to not liking how my hair is done or not vibing with the hair stylist but she made my experience so great. I have never had so many compliments on my hair before until she colored and cut my hair. It is by far the best balayage and cut I have ever had! I would 200% recommend Sarah to anyone and everyone!

    First time client and got a scalp facial and a shaggy cut. I have salon anxiety from prior bad experiences and this salon changed my fear! Plus they are neurodivergent and LGBT+ friendly!I saw Avin for my services and im so happy! He was very accommodating to my needs and helped educate me on hair care since I have issues with breakage and fallout. The scalp facial was so relaxing and perfect before my cut. Ill be back!     This is such a safe space to get your hair needs met. Maelee does a fantastic job on textured curly hair as well as the ability to give an amazing blow out if I feel like going for something more low maintenance! I have never left disappointed as I feel listened to and understood. I enjoy that Iā€™m not pushed to buy products right then and there like other salons. I also donā€™t have the stress of trying to figure out what is considered an appropriate tip because they bill hourly and I know that I have their full attention for that time.

    I got an amazing scalp treatment & haircut from Avin. Ive struggled with seborrheic dermatitis my whole life and summer humidity is the worst for that! The scalp treatment took away all the irritation and itching.The space itself feels very welcoming to me as a trans person and I love that they provide a basket of fidget toys for everyone to use.I left feelin fresh and lookin fly.

    I wanted to specifically write a review becuase I had the most amazing experience! My wonderful hairdresser Adriana went truly above and BEYOND the call to give me the BEST haircut of my life! I almost had to cancel due to severe transportation issues, but we worked that out no problem due to their dedication to the client! And when I was trying to explain in possibly unintelligible terms what I wanted done, she caught right on and gave me exactly what I wanted (more movement layers in fine, thick hair!). She was so helpful in giving me styling and care directions as Iā€™m navigating a new hair texture and she was so kind and supportive during the entire process and with future endeavors! I really think that if youā€™re looking for a true connection (or just want to chill thatā€™s an option too!!) this is the best place in town :)

    I recently got my haircut by Joanna and she absolutely killed it! She completely transformed my hair and I am so obsessed with it! I have gotten so many compliments already, and all my friends have been asking me where I got my hair cut. One thing I really enjoyed about my experience was how great Joanna was at listening and communication. She really took the time to understand what I wanted to do with my hair and was constantly making sure that I was okay with what she was doing. My hair turned out EXACTLY how I wanted it to look, if not, better than I could have imagined. She is also so knowledgable about hair. She taught me so many ways to care for and style my hair. From now on, I will only have Joanna cut my hair. I highly, highly recommend!!

    I recently tried out Goldenrod and let me tell you, the wasnt just a haircut it was an experience!Let me start with, I am not a fan of getting my hair done. I have a tender scalp, I dont enjoy sitting still for an extended period, the hustle and bustle in most salons can be a bit much, overall I usually view it as a chore versus a want to do.When I say this was an experience, I mean it was an experience. Rachael took the time to ask questions about what I wanted, examined my hair, asked probing questions to ensure we were on the same page. She explained what she was going to do and took her time cutting my hair. Rachael was so gentle while working with my hair, she was thoughtful in methodical in what she was doing from the cut to the wash to styling. She then took the time to show me how to style my hair at home so that I could recreate the look.I actually found the whole experience relaxing. Nothing felt rushed and I knew she was present while working with me. The atmosphere of the salon was chill and welcoming. I HIGHLY recommend Rachael and Goldenrod.

There are so many talented stylists there, each with their own areas of specialty so itā€™s easy to find the perfect fit.     Today I had such a wonderful experience at Goldenrod. I received a custom curly cut by Alf, who is absolutely phenomenal! I walked in looking a hot mess and walked out looking like a million bucks. I didnt know what or where to start, but I knew I needed professional help and thats exactly what I got. My curls never looked so amazing, he shaped my hair perfectly and gave me movie star volume. Everything was personalized right down to the wash. Invigorating clean products that made me feel like I was having a spa experience as well as a haircut. I was so relaxed I almost fell asleep. Im someone who gets very nervous when I go to a salon, but I felt right at home and I felt special. This was truly an amazing experience and was such a great start to my Birthday. If you cant figure out whats going on with your hair, if it seems you can never find the right products, if you want a haircut without having an anxiety attack, if you want to go in somewhere KNOWING you will walk out looking amazing....go see Alf, I honestly cant say enough nice things about Alf@Goldenrod. ...highly recommend!!

    Amazing place. The energy in the space is warm and comfortable and...happy. no tipping, gender neutral, they dont sell you products, and they have a silent option! My experience: stylist listened really well and checked with me as we went, helped with scalp damage, and gave me a great cut!!!My original appt was with a different stylist and she honestly told me I needed to book with Avin as what I wanted was not her area of expertise.     I went to Sarah for many years for my transition from dark box dyed hair to my natural gray. She made the transition beautiful and empowering. She is worth every penny. She lifted my dyed hair so that my gray could grow out more subtlety and more natural looking. It was a wonderful experience. Highly recommend.UPDATE: I have been going to Avin for a while now (also with Goldenrod) and he is fantastic. So happy with my hair, but maybe even more important to me, he is so kind and comfortable to be around. He will chat when you want or have a comfortable silent appointment if you need.UPDATE: Still with Avin! Heā€™s amazing and calming and lovely.     Got a cut and style by Maelee and it was such a wonderful experience. Sheā€™s super knowledgeable, really listens, and explains the process of what sheā€™s doing. I told her my main issue with transitioning to natural hair was frizz and styling and she left me feeling so beautiful! My curls were soft to the touch, so much bounce, and best of all she showed me what I can do to reduce frizz on my own. She even showed me how to finger coil, and had me practice so I could do it on my own at home. I ended up leaving with more curls than I thought my hair was capable of. Iā€™ve been looking for a curly hair expert in Gainesville, and sheā€™s it! Canā€™t wait to continue going to her. The salon was also beautiful and clean.

    Mariah was amazing and she is truly a master of her craft.     I have now been with Avin (formerly alf) through three local salons. Id honestly follow him to the ends of the earth because no one has ever made my hair look this cute or manageable - Ive never been able to leave a salon, wash my hair, and make it look as good as the day it was cut before. Now I can - for weeks it still looks great. Avin is phenomenal as a stylist and as a person. But this is also the best salon Ive ever experienced with him or with other stylists - its clean and bright without feeling fussy. The space is so comfortable and the energy from everyone who works there is so positive and kind. I also love not having a receptionist and booking everything online - having one less person to make small talk with is always a bonus in my book.

    Fantastic inclusive salon in central Gainesville with stylists who specialize in queer and gender-affirming hair cuts. The space is airy, super clean, and welcoming, and I had a great consult with Maelee before she cut my hair.     I went to see Avin for a significant change. Going to see a new-to-me stylist and asking them to go from long to short with a very specific vision can nerve-wracking. I even contacted him the day before to let him know I got cold feet about the whole thing (which he was completely understanding about!). Needless to say, it went better than expected. He really has amazing techniques that make you look like the example picture you bring in. On top of that, the salon itself is very clean, quiet, and professional. Visionary salon owner, Sarah K., opened this oasis last year along a quiet strip of downtown and she was among a fresh crop of talented entrepreneurs revitalizing business in the NW.     Aliyah is THE BEST for curly hair. Iā€™ve come here a few times over the past year for my routine hair trims and ALWAYS have an above and beyond experience. Aliyah takes so much care and time to make sure she understands exactly what you want before she starts the cut and then checks in frequently throughout the process to make sure youā€™re comfortable. She is an expert on cutting and styling all kinds of curly hair in all kinds of ways. Sheā€™s been able to show me so many options with my curls: bangs, a rounded or square shape, trims to promote growing my hair out, different types of layers. Her curly hair skills are so versatile and sheā€™s able to change little nuances here and there that help me get exactly what I want. She also talks with me about my hair and scalp health and my hair routine, and she recommends products that can help me take better care of my hair. I am SO glad I found Aliyah and Goldenrod. Goldenrod is truly an amazing place not only for hair cuts, but just feeling safe being yourself. And as a person who has left other hair salons in tears, or just kind of feeling meh, it is so special to be able to go to a place like Goldenrod and have a stylist like Aliyah and feel excited and confident and, most importantly: like the you-est version of yourself!
